Prescription Drug Abuse

Prescription drugs are drugs that have been prescribed to someone, but are used by those that have not been prescribed to. Many teens abuse prescrition drugs by buying things like Ritalin from students with ADHD. Other teens steal medications from parents and grandparents, such as OxyContin, and sell them to teens at school. Many teens become addicted to prescription drugs.

Across the country, prescription drug abuse is up in all age groups. Due to ease of access, youth under the age of 17 report that prescription drugs are the drugs of choice.

Even among teens that do not use drugs, it is acknowledged that they are fairly easy to come by. 29% of teens in grades 9 through 12 report that illegal drugs were made available to them on school property.

Did you know kids who learn about drugs risks from their parents are up to 50% less likely to use?
Then why have only 1 in 10 parents said they've spoken to thier kids about drugs?
